Claude Jupiter: The Model Leak That Reveals Anthropic's May 6 Play
Anthropic is secretly red teaming a model codenamed 'Claude Jupiter V1.' The code name wasn't accidental — and the timing is no coincidence either. On May 6, at Code with Claude, we're likely about to see one of Anthropic's biggest announcements yet.

The Jupiter Leak

On May 3, credible AI leak tracker TestingCatalog reported that Anthropic is currently red teaming an internal model under the codename 'Jupiter.' Red teaming means security auditing — they're stress-testing the model for safety, security, and capability flaws before any public announcement. The fact that this is happening now, two days before Code with Claude, tells us something big is coming.

But here's the key insight: Anthropic doesn't name models after planets randomly. When they named Claude 4 'Neptune' internally, that leak happened weeks before the actual launch at a developer conference. The pattern is clear — largest planets in our solar system = largest announcements from Anthropic.

What Jupiter Likely Is

Jupiter is the largest planet in our solar system. If Anthropic's codename pattern holds, Jupiter is not a minor model update — it's the new top-tier Claude. Think: A model bigger than Opus 4.7. A model that jumps the capability gap between Opus and whatever comes next.

Here's another clue: In recent announcements, we've seen Opus 4.7 (released April 16). But Sonnet 4.7 and Haiku 4.7? Conspicuously missing from the lineup. No announcement. No availability window. Just... absent. That gap suggests Anthropic is preparing something that either replaces them or sits above them in the tier structure.

The May 6 Timeline

Code with Claude is Anthropic's annual developer conference. It's the stage where they announce major model releases, new capabilities, and strategic pivots. Last year, Claude 4 dropped at a similar event. The pattern of red teaming followed by a major conference announcement is established. This year, Jupiter is teed up.

We're 48 hours away. Either this story gets officially confirmed at Code with Claude on May 6, or Anthropic reveals something even bigger. But after this leak hit, silence wouldn't be an option — developers are already speculating.

Field note

The Leak Changes the Game: Anthropic wanted to announce Jupiter on their own terms. The leak forced their hand. On May 6, expect them to either confirm Jupiter and own the narrative, or reveal something entirely different to one-up the speculation.

What This Means for You

If Jupiter launches on May 6, here's what to expect:

  • Pricing: Probably Max tier only (or a new tier above Max). Opus 4.7 is already the most expensive widely-available model. Jupiter will cost more.
  • Capability: Double-down on reasoning, code, and function calling. It'll be the model Anthropic markets at enterprises that can't use Opus.
  • Availability: Enterprise customers first. Pro/regular API access comes later, if at all.
  • Ecosystem: New developer tools, integrations, and documentation will ship alongside it.
  • Benchmark Claims: Expect Anthropic to own some new benchmark (math, code, reasoning) that OpenAI doesn't lead on.

If you've been waiting to build on the absolute cutting edge of Claude, May 6 is your date. Jupiter isn't just a new model — it's a signal that Anthropic is in all-out capability race mode.
