Claude Cowork Dispatch: Anthropic Launches Mobile Remote Control for Your Mac Agent

Anthropic today launched <strong>Dispatch</strong>, a new research-preview feature for Claude Cowork that lets subscribers remotely control a Mac-based Cowork session directly from their iPhone or any mobile browser. It's live now for Max plan subscribers ($100–$200/month), with Pro access promised within days.

The feature fills one of the most requested gaps in the Cowork experience: until today, Cowork was desktop-only, requiring you to be physically in front of your Mac. Dispatch changes that equation — though, as with most research previews, it comes with some important caveats.

What Is Dispatch?

Dispatch is Claude Cowork's answer to what Claude Code already gained last month with its <strong>Remote Control</strong> feature. Where Remote Control bridges a terminal CLI session to your phone, Dispatch does the same for the full Claude Cowork environment — Anthropic's sandboxed, Mac-native autonomous agent.

The core concept is simple: your Mac stays awake with the Claude app open and Cowork active. Dispatch then creates a secure, encrypted link between that local session and your mobile device. From your phone, you can issue tasks, check status, and receive results — all while Cowork continues running the work on your Mac hardware, with full access to your files, apps, and any MCP servers you've configured.

How It Works

Technically, Dispatch mirrors the architecture of Claude Code Remote Control. Your Mac initiates an <em>outbound</em> connection to Anthropic's API — no inbound ports, no VPN, no firewall changes required. Your phone then acts as a "remote window" into the session, with commands and results flowing through an encrypted bridge. Your files never leave your machine; only the chat messages and tool call results pass through the API.

This architecture matters for enterprise and privacy-conscious users. Unlike traditional remote desktop tools, there's nothing exposed to the open internet. If your Mac sleeps or loses connectivity, the session suspends and automatically resumes when the machine comes back online — no manual reconnection needed.

Setup: QR Code and Pair in Seconds

Getting started is intentionally frictionless. After updating the Claude Mac app, a new <strong>Dispatch</strong> option appears inside Cowork. Tapping it displays a QR code — scan it with your iPhone camera, and the Claude iOS app immediately opens a paired Dispatch session. From that point on, a dedicated Dispatch entry appears in the app's sidebar for quick access.

One thing to note: Cowork itself isn't natively available in the Claude iOS app. Dispatch doesn't change that — it specifically mirrors your Mac's Cowork session, not a standalone mobile instance. Think of it as a remote control for your desktop agent, not a port of Cowork to iOS.

What It Can (and Can't) Do Right Now

Early hands-on testing from MacStories paints a picture of a feature that's genuinely promising but rough in its first release — roughly a 50/50 success rate across real-world tasks. The pattern is clear: Dispatch excels at <strong>reading and summarizing data</strong> but struggles with anything that requires taking <strong>action</strong> on your Mac.

  • ✅ Locating a screenshot with specific text in it
  • ✅ Summarizing the most recent note in a Notion database
  • ✅ Adding a URL to a Notion database
  • ✅ Summarizing the most recently received email
  • ⚠️ Finding screenshots of a specific app — matched by filename only, not visual content
  • ❌ Opening an app on your Mac remotely
  • ❌ Sending a file via iMessage
  • ❌ Listing Todoist tasks — authorization error
  • ❌ Accessing content from an active Safari tab

It also works well with Connectors — Anthropic's integration plugins that handle their own authentication externally. The feature is also notably slow in this research preview; tasks that feel instant on desktop can queue up without obvious visual feedback that anything is happening.

Dispatch vs. Claude Code Remote Control

If you're a developer, you might be wondering how Dispatch compares to Claude Code's Remote Control feature, which launched on February 25th. The two share the same underlying architecture but serve different users and workflows.

<strong>Claude Code Remote Control</strong> requires an active Terminal session and is aimed at developers who want to manage an in-progress coding task from their phone. It's powerful for technical workflows, but demands comfort with the CLI.

<strong>Dispatch</strong> is built for the Cowork audience — people using Claude as a general-purpose Mac agent for tasks like research, file management, writing, and app automation. No Terminal required. If you've never touched a command line, Dispatch is the mobile agent bridge built specifically for you.

Availability and Pricing

Dispatch is available today as a <strong>research preview on Claude Max</strong> plans ($100–$200/month). Anthropic has confirmed Pro plan access ($20/month) is coming within a few days of this launch. There's no word yet on Team or Enterprise availability.

To access it, update the Claude Mac app to the latest version. The Dispatch option will appear automatically inside Cowork once updated. No additional configuration required — just update, open Cowork, and scan the QR code.

The Bottom Line

Dispatch is an exciting first step that addresses a real frustration for Cowork users. Being able to fire off a research task or ask Claude to pull together information while you're away from your desk is genuinely useful — and the QR code pairing flow is slick and instant.

But it's a research preview in the truest sense. A ~50% success rate on real tasks isn't reliable enough to build habits around just yet. The limitations around app control, browser access, and third-party integrations will need to improve significantly before Dispatch feels like a complete remote agent experience.

That said, paired with Remote Control for developers, Dispatch completes a picture of what Anthropic is building: a full agent stack that follows you across devices. For now, treat it as a capable but temperamental assistant who does great work when reading, and needs supervision when acting. The promise is real — the reliability just needs to catch up.
